More about The Crafty Pickle Co.

Founded by two Nutritionists, The Crafty Pickle came to life over a shared love for food, nutrition and reducing our global impact. We produce a selection of sauerkrauts and kimchi's that liven up any meal and help reduce food waste. Over 1/3 of ALL food produced is wasted. This is unacceptable and we aim to do something about it.

What was the motivation behind your brand, business or organisation? What did you want to change in the world?

When we set up the Crafty Pickle we knew we wanted to create a business with a purpose that could do some good in the World. As nutritionists, we have a deep love affair with food and it breaks our heart to know how much is wasted. That’s why we became Ferments Fighting Food Waste, not just your average fermented food business we use as much surplus or imperfect produce as we can to craft our sauerkrauts and kimchis!

Who is the team behind your brand, business or organisation?

We are Madi & Arthur, Registered Associated Nutritionists, Fermentationists and lovers of food pretty and ugly. We met while studying for our MSc in Human Nutrition at the University of Aberdeen and set up The Crafty Pickle in 2019 to combine our shared passions for fermentation and sustainability. Recently Madi’s parents have joined the team as we re-locate to South Wales. They'll be helping us grow and increase our fight against food waste.

What one thing about your brand, business or organisation would most surprise us or is not known outside of your team?

Co-founder Arthur is from the States and used to serve in the US Army. He’s probably had one of the strangest career changes you can have from Helicopter Mechanic to sauerkraut maestro!

If your brand, business or organisation could be granted one wish, what would you wish for?

We’d use our wish to end food insecurity that so urgently needs solving in this country and the rest of the World. Because we want to help in any way we can a percentage of every sale of our products is donated to a charity that fights hunger in the UK.

Is there anything else that you would like to share with us about your brand, business or organisation?

We also host fermentation workshops and combine this with education on food and health, bringing in our nutrition knowledge. We’re also always keen to hear from anyone who can help us increase our impact in the fight against food waste. We can work with producers of many sizes to utilise surplus or imperfect veggies that would otherwise go to waste or be diverted out of the human food chain. We'd love to hear from you!
